Merit Builds: Honouring Our Veterans Today and Tomorrow

Merit Nova Scotia members strongly believe in the principle of giving back to communities in Nova Scotia. On October 17, 2013, Merit Nova Scotia launched Merit Builds: Honouring our veterans today and tomorrow. This program recognizes military veterans (and spouses) in need of home improvements or upgrades to existing areas of their homes. Our goal is to reach as many veterans as possible to make them more comfortable in their homes by assisting with minor projects such as door widenings, wheelchair ramps, and bathroom upgrades.

Merit NS is pleased to be working with MP Peter Stoffer and VETS Canada President & CEO, Jim Lowther, to identify and work with those veterans in need. The Merit NS Board of Directors will decide on the number of cases to be addressed each year. That number will be determined by the following factors:

•The number of Merit NS member companies involved in the program.

•The time and ability of each member company to fulfill program/job requirements.

• Cost of service and Merit’s and the members’ ability to secure supplier/distributor sponsors.

Jim Lowther had this to say about Merit Builds:

“There’s so much potential here. It’s very exciting. There’s so much need for this in this country…It’s a real hands-on approach. There’s nothing better. It just fills your soul with pride.”

Merit Nova Scotia Board Chair, Greg Cole of ColeBuilt: “This is not a charity. This is giving back. This is debt repayment. It’s about what we owe.”

Merit Nova Scotia members are indebted to the men and women who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice their health and safety for our protection at home. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

“The professionalism, along with the care that is given from Merit Nova Scotia staff, is the best I have ever seen. Each and every person I have encountered has been a pleasure to work with.” – Roode & Rose Plumbing and Heating
